The following is a summary of the proceedings of the Regular Council Meeting held January 20, 2021: 

  • Council received the Planning Report respecting the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal decision issued for Zoning By-law Amendment No. Z05-2018; and directed the Mayor and Clerk to sign By-law No. 12-19, Being a By-law to Amend the Municipality of Sioux Lookout Comprehensive Zoning By-law No. 85-18, as amended – Rockshore Holdings Inc., 124 Queen Street, Lot 301, Plan 220, Parcel 8285, pursuant to the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal Order. The Order overturns a previous decision of Council not to permit the requested development. The planned development may now proceed.
  • Council directed the Chief Administrative Officer to provide a letter of concurrence on its behalf, as requested by Tbaytel, for the installation of a 60 meter self-supported wireless telecommunication tower to be located at 42 The Mill Road, Hudson.
  • Council authorized the passing of By-law No. 04-21, Being a By-law to Authorize the Mayor and the Clerk to Execute a Contribution Agreement with Her Majesty the Queen in Right of Canada as represented by the Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages – COVID Tourism Modification Project.
  • Council authorized a funding application to the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation for $1,000,000 and second funding application to FedNor for $1,500,000 under the Strategic Economic Infrastructure Programs, along with a  $932,500 contribution from a Private Sector Partner, to extend municipal services and site preparation of Hillcrest Property for a total project cost of $4,365,000; and Council authorized a Municipal contribution of $932,500 and agreed to cover any cost overruns.
  • Council authorized the passing of By-law No. 07-21, Being a By-law to Amend By-law No. 54-20, Being a By-law to Establish a Health and Safety Policy Manual and Adopt Certain Health and Safety Policies (new policies added)
  • Council directed staff to not submit Resolutions for consideration at the 2021 Kenora District Municipal Association meeting.
  • Council passed By-law No. 06-21, Being a By-law to Appoint Jackie Trenholm as Deputy Clerk for the Municipality.
  • Council approved amending Schedule "A" to By-law No. 92-18, Being a By-law to Make Appointments to Various Boards, Commissions and Committees, by adding Victor Lyon to The Municipal Truth and Reconciliation Committee, and deleting Mike Quince from the Sioux Lookout Environment Committee.
