The following is a summary of the proceedings of the Regular Council Meeting held March 16th, 2022:

  • Council received the 2021 Annual Report for the Hudson Drinking Water System and the Sioux Lookout Urban Drinking Water System from Northern Waterworks Inc.
  • Council authorized the purchase of a new ice-resurfacing machine for the Memorial Arena (an Olympia Millennium E).
  • Council authorized the passing of By-law No. 19-22, Being a By-law to Establish the Water and Wastewater Service Rates and Charges for the Production, Treatment, Storage and Distribution of Water and/or Wastewater in the Municipality of Sioux Lookout and to Repeal By-law No. 15-21. The new water/wastewater rates will become effective April 1, 2022.
  • Council received the 2021 Municipal Operating “Budget to Actual” Report from the Treasurer.
  • Council received the statement of the 2021 remuneration and expenses paid to members of Council for the fiscal period January 1st to December 31st, 2021.
  • Council authorized the passing of By-law No. 18-22, Being a By-law to Authorize the Mayor and the Clerk to Execute an Agreement with Her Majesty the Queen in Right of Ontario, as represented by the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry (Northern Ontario Resources Development Support (NORDS) Program – Grant Funding). This funding will be allocated to a Government Reserve Fund and will be utilized for capital projects.
  • Council adopted the Treasurer’s Compliance Report for expenditures excluded from the 2022 budget.
  • Council authorized the passing of By-law No. 17-22, Being a By-law to Authorize the Mayor and the Clerk to Enter into and Execute the Municipal Funding Agreement for the Transfer of Dedicated Gas Tax Funds for Public Transportation Program with Minister of Transportation for Ontario.
  • Council approved the Municipality of Sioux Lookout Environment Committee’s 2022 Work Plan and budget request.
  • Council approved the Municipal Truth and Reconciliation Committee’s 2022 Work Plan and budget request.
  • Council declared May and June 2022 “Honeybee Appreciation Months” and will allow residents’ yards to exceed the maximum height permitted for grass and/or weeds pursuant to By-law No. 16-06.
  • Council Approved amending Schedule “A” of By-law No. 92-18, Being a By-law to make Appointments to Various Boards, Commissions and Committees, by adding the Sioux Lookout Municipal Accommodation Tax Committee and members appointed in November 2021, and Council also approved deleting Aanchal Sharma (pursuant to her resignation) and appointed Alana Anderson to the Sioux Lookout Municipal Accommodation Tax Committee.
