Council Brief

The following is a summary of the proceedings of the Statutory Public Meeting, and the Regular Council Meeting held August 16, 2023:

Statutory Public Meeting:

  • Council authorized the passing of By-law No. 76-23, Being a By-law to amend By-law No. 85-18, Being a Comprehensive Zoning By-law for The Corporation of the Municipality of Sioux Lookout, as amended (Kelly, 3 Robert Street). This allows for a 4-unit apartment building to be built at 3 Robert Street.
  • Council authorized the passing of By-law No. 78-23, Being a By-law to adopt Official Plan Amendment No. 7. Council passed By-law No. 77-23, Being a By-law to amend Zoning By-law 85-18, as amended. This will allow the building at 29 Mennonite Road to be utilized as office space.
  • Council approved the proposed amendments to the current Community Improvement Plan (CIP) in accordance with the August 2023 Draft Version presented to Council at the August 16, 2023 Council Meeting. More information regarding the CIP will be posted on the Municipality’s website int the coming weeks.

Regular Council Meeting:

  • Council authorized the passing of By-law No. 79-23, Being a By-law to amend By-law No. 85-18, Being a Comprehensive Zoning By-law for The Corporation of the Municipality of Sioux Lookout, as amended, to permit an extension of a temporary use By-law for 17 Bernier Bay, Boreal Trails Subdivision.
  • Council authorized the passing of By-law No. 83-23, Being a By-law to Amend By-law No. 50-05, Being a By-law to Adopt the Personnel Policy for The Corporation of the Municipality of Sioux Lookout, to add Administrative Procedure No. 3-60: Social Media Policy.
  • Council authorized the passing of By-law No. 84-23, Being a By-law to Authorize the Mayor and the Clerk to Execute an Agreement Between The Corporation of the Municipality of Sioux Lookout and Corrosion Armor for the Installation of Spray Foam and a Seamless Membrane on the Public Works Garage Roof in the Amount of $154,666 plus HST.
  • Council, notwithstanding Section 4.4 of the Procedure By-law, directed that the September Council Meeting be held in Council Chambers.
  • Support for NOMA and FONOM Housing Resolution regarding housing was carried, and staff was directed to distribute the resolution.
  • Council authorized staff to submit an application for funding to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s Housing Accelerator Fund Program, to further support the Municipality’s efforts to have more housing built in our community.
  • Council received a motion to reconsider the Hudson Pavilion Project. This item will be discussed by Council at the September Regular Council Meeting.
  • Council ratified direction given to staff and the Mayor in Closed Session regarding subject matter related to proposed purchase of Municipal property and Policing matters.
