TAKE NOTICE THAT the Municipality of Sioux Lookout has received an application to amend Zoning By-law 85-18 for the Removal of a Holding (H) Symbol. The amendment is being considered under the requirements of Section 36 of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990, Chapter p. 13, as amended, and applicable regulations. The subject property is known locally as the Bigwood Estates Development, and is described legally as GTP BLK 10PT RP 23R4051 PART 1 PCL 30880 and SIOUX LOOKOUT PT GTP BLK 10 AND RP 23R2836 PARTS 2 TO 6 RP 23R11804 PART 1 PCL 28817 28818 29325. The subject property is shown on the key map below.

The PURPOSE AND EFFECT of the proposed amendment is to facilitate the future development of the subject lands. The Municipality is in the process of preparing the subject lands for future development by providing subsurface and surface infrastructure. The lifting of the Mixed Use Exception One Holding (MU-1(H)) Zone and Airport Industrial Exception One Holding (AP-1(H)) Zone provisions will permit development once the necessary infrastructure is complete. The future development of the subject lands will be completed through the execution of individual agreements with the Municipality.  A Site Plan Agreement has been prepared for the entire site, which will be amended as new development is proposed. 

The Municipality of Sioux Lookout will consider the By-law at the earliest, at their Regular Council Meeting on Wednesday, June 21st, 2023, at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at the Municipal Office to consider this application. The meeting will also be livestreamed via:

If you wish to provide comments on the application, please do so in writing to the Planning Coordinator in advance of the Meeting.  You may also provide verbal comments by calling 807-737-2700 ext. 2234 and the comments will be transcribed and presented at the Public Meeting.  Further, if you wish to participate or speak at the Meeting, please contact the Planning Coordinator.  Anyone wishing to provide comments or speak at the meeting must submit their request by phone or email by noon on June 21st in order to attend.

ANY PERSON may attend the Meeting and/or make written or verbal representation either in support or in opposition to the proposed Zoning By-law Amendment.

If you wish to be notified of the decision of the Municipality of Sioux Lookout in respect of the proposed Zoning By-law Amendment, you must make a written request to the Planning Coordinator of the Municipality (address below).

There is no opportunity to appeal a decision regarding an amending By-law to Remove a Holding Symbol made by the Corporation of the Municipality of Sioux Lookout to the Ontario Land Tribunal.
