Council Brief - September 2023
The following is a summary of the proceedings of the Statutory Public Meeting, and the Regular Council Meeting held September 20, 2023:
  • At the Statutory Public Meeting, Council received an Official Plan Amendment and Zoning By-law Amendment report for 140 Alcona Drive.
  • During the Regular Council Meeting, Council authorized the adoption of the Official Plan Amendment No. 8 by passing By-law No. 87-23, Being a By-law to Adopt an Amendment to the Official Plan.
  • Council also passed By-law No. 88-23, Being a By-law to amend By-law No. 85-18, Being a Comprehensive Zoning By-law for The Corporation of the Municipality of Sioux Lookout for 140 Alcona Drive.
  • James Brohm made a presentation regarding Sioux Lookout Bombers Financing Request, asking for support from the Municipality to help purchase a Sioux Lookout Bombers Junior ‘A’ hockey club bus. Council directed staff to research the topic and provide a report to Council at a subsequent Council Meeting.
  • Council authorized and directed staff to submit a Phase 2 Application for funding under the FedNor Community Economic Development program for a Tourism Diversification Infrastructure Enhancement Study.
  • Council passed By-law No. 95-23, Being a By-law to Authorize the Mayor and the Clerk to Execute a Contract Between The Corporation of the Municipality of Sioux Lookout and Keewatin-Aski Ltd. for the Detailed Design, Specifications, Tendering and Contract Administration for the Highway 72 Water and Sewer Service Extensions & the Pelican Park Lift Station, Submarine Forcemain and Sewer Main Upgrades Project in the amount of $280,430 plus HST.
  • Council passed By-law No. 85-23, Being a By-law to Authorize the Mayor and the Clerk to Execute Agreements and Documents Regarding the Sale of the Hereinafter Described Land by The Corporation of the Municipality of Sioux Lookout to 1000257529 Ontario Inc. (58 Front Street).
  • Council passed By-law No. 86-23, Being a By-law to Authorize the Conveyance of Certain Hereinafter Described Land by The Corporation of the Municipality of Sioux Lookout to 1000257529 Ontario Inc., and to Direct the Mayor and the Clerk to Execute the Transfer (58 Front Street).
  • Council passed By-law No. 93-23, Being a By-law to Authorize the Mayor and the Clerk to Execute Agreements and Documents Regarding the Sale of the Hereinafter Described Land by The Corporation of the Municipality of Sioux Lookout to 5040402 Ontario Inc. (Airport Lands).
  • Council passed By-law No. 94-23, Being a By-law to Authorize the Conveyance of Certain Hereinafter Described Land by The Corporation of the Municipality of Sioux Lookout to 5040402 Ontario Inc., and directed the Mayor and the Clerk to Execute the Transfer.
  • Council passed By-law No. 89-23, Being a By-law to Appoint a Deputy Clerk for The Corporation of the Municipality of Sioux Lookout (J. Trenholm).
  • The motion to reconsider the Hudson Pavilion Project was defeated.
  • Council directed the Mayor to send a letter to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry in support of the Issue Resolution appeal submitted by Leslie Starratt regarding the Area of Concern (AOC) in the Lac Seul Forest Management Plan as it relates to the forestry operations in Hudson; and further that the letter specifically addresses the buffer being requested adjacent to the “Johnny Luc’s Road”.
