Council Brief

The following is a summary of the proceedings of the Regular Council Meeting held October 18, 2023:

  • Ms. Farah Sheriffdeen made a presentation to provide Council with the FoodCycler Food Waste Diversion Pilot Program Survey Results.
  • Dr. Laurel Laakso and Dr. David Folk made a presentation to Council on Sioux Lookout and Region Physician Recruitment and Retention to request a two year commitment from the Municipality of Sioux Lookout for a maximum of $50,000 per year. The financial incentives would be for medical residents who commit to signing a full-time contract with Sioux Lookout Regional Physicians’ Services (SLRPSI) and to contribute to the recruitment and retention activities for the physicians and locums within Sioux Lookout.
  • Mrs. Lynsey Springett, Practice Manager, Dryden Veterinary Services, made a presentation to Council about Expanding Access to Veterinary Care in Northern Ontario.
  • Council approved to provide a letter of support to the College of Veterinarians in support of the Regulatory Sandbox proposal submitted by Dryden Veterinary Services (DVS) to pilot a Registered Veterinary Technician operated veterinary clinic in Sioux Lookout. Council also approved to provide space to Dryden Veterinary Services to park their mobile veterinary clinic at the Municipal Dog Pound site on King Street during the summer season, and under the shelter at the baseball diamonds between September – April for a one-year pilot project.
  • Council authorized and directed staff to engage HTFC Planning & Design to update the Downtown Revitalization Plan that they finalized in 2010 as part of the Sioux Lookout & Hudson Revitalization Study.
  • Council received the 2023 Municipal Operating Budget-to-Actual update, as outlined in the Treasurer’s Report No. 2023-121.
  • Council directed staff to reallocate the $27,000 earmarked for the Bigwood Site Development Design & Preliminary Site Work to hire an appraiser to provide commercial property appraisals for the Hillcrest and Bigwood properties. Council awarded the contract for the Hillcrest and Bigwood property appraisal services to Avison Young Valuation & Advisory Services, LP, in an amount of $34,500 plus HST.
