Council Brief

The following is a summary of the proceedings of the Public Hearing and the Regular Council Meeting held June 15, 2022:

  • At the Public Hearing, Council received a Report respecting the Road Allowance Closure and Sale Application for the portion of a road allowance adjacent to Dori Hopko and Kevin Goriak’s property at 3 Loon Lake Road, Sioux Lookout.
  • During the Regular Council Meeting, Council passed By-law No. 37-22 to Permanently Close, Declare Surplus and Authorize the Sale of a Highway of the Municipality of Sioux Lookout.
  • Council passed By-law No. 42-22 to Authorize the Mayor and the Clerk to Execute an Agreement with 1876118 Ontario Limited o/a Makkinga Contractors for Airport Parking Lot Modifications and Taxiway Alpha Remediation Project for $277,555.00.
  • Council passed By-law No. 38-22, Being a By-law to Establish and Acquire Certain Lands (3 Loon Lake Road, Hopko-Goriak).
  • Council directed staff to develop an Agreement with JAMB Developments Inc. regarding equal cost-sharing of the reconstruction of the Sturgeon River Boat Launch Road, the Municipality will reconstruct the road and all costs shall be divided equally, a By-law will follow at a subsequent meeting.
  • Council authorized and directed the CAO and Clerk to Execute an Agreement with Bell Canada for the Provision of Next Generation 9-1-1 System Services.
  • Council approved a motion to request the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing activate the Municipal Disaster Recovery Assistance (MDRA) program.
  • Council delegated the Treasurer authority to verify and attest to the accuracy of the claim to be submitted to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
  • Council authorized extending the two-hour parking provisions on Front Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues effective immediately. The By-law will follow at the July Regular Council Meeting.
  • Council passed By-law No. 43-22 to Amend By-law No. 54-20 to rescind all COVID-19 related policies and for the Mayor to rescind the Declaration of an Emergency.
  • Council approved that Council Meetings will return to the “in-person” format effective July 1, 2022.
  • Council directed Municipal Office hours to be adjusted to 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
