Sioux Lookout, ON – The Municipality of Sioux Lookout has launched the 2026 Community Improvement Plan (CIP) Program. Building on the success of the program over the last two years, the CIP continues to be a vital tool for revitalizing the downtown core, boosting the local economy, and supporting housing development.
The CIP program offers financial incentives to property and business owners in designated areas of Sioux Lookout for downtown revitalization, economic development, and housing development – all areas that align with Sioux Lookout’s strategic priorities.
With 23 approved projects over the 2024 and 2025 application cycles, the CIP has made a significant impact by revitalizing storefronts, incentivizing housing projects, and beautifying public spaces.
"The Community Improvement Plan has been an avenue for the Municipality to work with business owners and private developers to grow businesses and bring a range of housing options to residents” said Mayor Doug Lawrance. “The CIP has attracted significant interest from business and property owners since we began in 2024. We look forward to receiving new applications this year."
CAO / Municipal Clerk, Brian MacKinnon, added that, "The CIP program allows the Municipality to work with private developers and business owners on a range of projects including building renovation, housing projects, façade improvements, and enhanced accessibility. Supporting these projects is instrumental in creating a vibrant and welcoming community."
Eligible applicants can apply for grants to support projects such as:
- Façade improvements.
- Accessibility enhancements.
- Residential intensification.
- Property rehabilitation and revitalization.
The application intake period runs through February 28, 2026. Applications will be awarded based on their alignment with the program’s goals and available funding.
