A Zoning By-law controls the use of land in a community. It states exactly:
- How land may be used
- Where buildings and other structures can be located
- The types of building that are permitted and how they may be used
- The lot sizes and dimensions, parking requirements, building heights and densities, and setbacks from streets.
You can read more about Zoning By-laws at Citizen’s Guide to Land Use Planning.
A copy of the Municipality of Sioux Lookout’s current Zoning By-law is also available online.
If you want to use or develop your property in a way that is not allowed by the zoning bylaw, you may apply for a zoning change, also known as a zoning bylaw amendment or a rezoning. Council can consider a change only if the new use is allowed by the official plan. Find out more about Zoning By-law Amendments here (insert hyperlink to Zoning By-law Amendment Application form)
