Minor Variance

If your proposed change to your property does not conform exactly to the existing Zoning By-law, but follows its general intent, you can apply for a Minor Variance. For example, you might want to locate something on your property, but you are unable to meet the minimum setback requirements because of the shape of your lot.

Minor Variance Application Process

The Minor Variance application process typically lasts from one to three months. The steps include:

  • Pre-consultation meeting
  • Applicant prepares application
  • Circulation of application
  • Notice of Public Hearing
  • Committee of Adjustment meeting
  • Committee's decision
  • Decision circulated
  • Appeal period
  • Final decision
