Sioux Lookout, ON – The Municipality of Sioux Lookout is now providing separate bins for used motor oil and cooking oil disposal at Hidden Lake Landfill.
Residents must place used motor oil in the Motor Oil Bin and used cooking oil in the Food Oil Bin for proper disposal. The two oil types must not be mixed. To help prevent contamination of either bin, and protect the continued operation of the used oil collection services, the collection area will remain locked whenever it is unattended.
During winter operations, residents are asked to contact Public Works in advance to arrange an oil drop-off. Depending on traffic and other site operations, residents may need to wait until staff are available to unlock the collection area and assist with the drop-off.
Residents who are unsure which Bin to use, whether a specific type of oil is accepted, or how to manage another material, should contact Public Works before visiting the landfill.
“The Municipality is pleased to be able to provide these collection options for used motor and cooking oils,” said Jeff Hawley, Public Works Manager. “Clear signage will be put in place to help residents keep each type of waste oil in the appropriate bin.”
