Proclamation
Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day
October 15, 2026
WHEREAS: Pregnancy and Infant Loss are a more common occurrence than is usually recognized. Approximately 15% to 25% of pregnancies end in a miscarriage and affect thousands of families in Canada each year; and
WHEREAS: A loss during pregnancy or infancy is a complex and unique tragedy that profoundly affects parents as individuals, as couples and as families; and
WHEREAS: The Municipality of Sioux Lookout wishes to acknowledge the profound grief experienced by families who suffer the loss of a baby through pregnancy loss, infant loss, stillbirth, or child loss; and
WHEREAS: Recognizing these losses helps to honour babies gone too soon, and the grief of those who mourn the loss of these lives.
NOW THEREFORE: I, Doug Lawrance, Mayor of the Municipality of Sioux Lookout, do hereby proclaim October 15, 2026 as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day in the Municipality of Sioux Lookout and encourage all residents to join in raising awareness, supporting those affected by loss, and promoting compassion and understanding for bereaved families.
