TAKE NOTICE THAT the Municipality of Sioux Lookout has initiated a review of its Official Plan and will hold a Special Public Meeting under Section 17 and Section 26(3)(b) of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990, C.P. 13, as amended, to introduce the project to the public and receive comments from members of the public regrading possible revisions to the current Official Plan. Council will consider public input prior to adopting an updated Official Plan and there will be other public consultation and engagement opportunities provided through the project.
PUBLIC MEETING
You are invited to participate in the Special Public Meeting for the Official Plan Review and learn more about this important project and how you can participate in the review and update of the Municipality’s Official Plan. The Special Public Meeting is intended to provide an early opportunity for the public to offer input regarding any issue or matter that should be considered during the Official Plan Review process.
Please note that there will be ongoing opportunities to participate in this process.

WHAT IS AN OFFICIAL PLAN?
The Municipality of Sioux Lookout’s Official Plan establishes a vision, guiding principles, objectives, and policies to manage and direct physical development and the effect of change on the social, cultural, economic, and natural environment for a 20-year horizon. The current Municipal Official Plan was adopted by Council in 2018 and the Plan was approved by the Province in 2019.
WHY ARE WE REVIEWING OUR OFFICIAL PLAN?
The Municipality is required by the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990, C.P. 13, as amended, to review the Official Plan to determine if the Official Plan requires changes to reflect current issues and legislation.
The Municipality has determined that it is an appropriate time to review and update the Official Plan to ensure that it conforms to the Provincial Planning Statement, 2024, and other relevant Provincial planning legislation, including updates to the Planning Act. The Provincial Planning Statement is a Provincial land use policy document that applies to all lands within the Province of Ontario. The Provincial Planning Statement provides policy direction on matters of Provincial interest related to land use planning and development. The current Municipal Official Plan was prepared in 2018 with consideration for a 2014 version of the Provincial Planning Statement. There have been updates to the policy document including a 2020 edition, and the current 2024 edition since the last Official Plan was approved.
Additionally, it is important to check the effectiveness of the Official Plan to ensure its collective vision is being realized, and to improve and enhance our policies to help the Municipality achieve its strategic goals and objectives.
WHY YOUR INPUT IS IMPORTANT
The Official Plan is a community document that affects everyone in the Municipality. The Official Plan includes policies on public works infrastructure, housing, economic development, recreation, among others. Your participation in the Official Plan review process ensures that the content of the Official Plan reflects the vision of the residents of Sioux Lookout.
Any person may participate in the Special Public Meeting by making an oral presentation at the meeting or submitting written comments to the Planning Coordinator at the address included in this notice. Anyone wishing to provide comments or speak at the meeting must submit their request by phone or email by noon on September 16, 2026. You may also provide verbal comments by calling 807-737-2700 ext. 8003 and the comments will be transcribed and presented at the Public Meeting. If you wish to participate or speak at the Public Meeting, please contact the Planning Coordinator.
If you wish to be notified of the decision of the Municipality of Sioux Lookout on any changes to the Official Plan resulting from the Official Plan Review, you must make a written request to the Planning Coordinator of the Municipality.
