Public Notice
The following is a summary of the proceedings of the Regular Council Meeting held December 17, 2025:
- Council adopted the Municipality of Sioux Lookout 2026-2031 Strategic Plan and directed staff to coordinate and implement the public launch activities to share the plan.
- Purpose: The 2026-2031 Strategic Plan outlines the Municipality’s strategic priorities, goals and performance measures to guide decision-making, budgeting and service delivery over the next five years.
- Council approved a donation of $2,302 to support the Sioux Lookout Food Bank in purchasing food. This contribution will come from the Council Donation Budget, funded through the Municipal Accommodation Tax.
- Purpose: To support the local food bank in purchasing a variety of food items for their clients.
- Council authorized the reduction of taxes under section 357 of the Municipal Act, 2001.
- Purpose: To receive approval from Council for the tax adjustment on 16 King Street in the amount of $3,496.
- Council passed By-law No. 75-25, Being a By-law to Deem 41 Second Street, Plan M212 Lot 48 to 49, Pcl 25269 and Plan M2112 Lot 50 to 51 Pcl 12209 and 12260, Municipality of Sioux Lookout, Not to be on a Plan of Subdivision.
- Purpose: To merge the two lots into one lot.
- Council passed By-law No. 78-25, Being a By-law to Deem 71 Third Street and 73 Third Street, Municipality of Sioux Lookout, Not to be on a Plan of Subdivision.
- Purpose: To merge the two lots into one lot.
- Council passed By-law No. 74-25, Being a By-law to Deem 74 Second Street and 76 Second Street, Municipality of Sioux Lookout, Not to be on a Plan of Subdivision.
- Purpose: To merge the two lots into one lot.
- Council received the report dated December 17, 2025, titled Deletion of Development Agreement Registered on Title – 3 Friesen and authorized the Clerk to execute an Acknowledgement and Direction document to facilitate the deletion of the development agreement registered on the land title..
- Purpose: To allow the Municipal Clerk to execute the necessary documents to delete the development agreement from the property’s land title.
- Council directed staff not to submit a By-law for electors’ consent, pursuant to Sections 8, 8.1, 8.2, and 8.3 of the Municipal Electors Act, 1996, as amended.
- Purpose: To inform Council of its option to place a question on the ballot for the 2026 Municipal Election and to seek direction on whether Council wishes to explore adding a question.
- Council passed By-law No. 80-25, Being a By-law to Appoint a Deputy Clerk for The Corporation of the Municipality of Sioux Lookout (A. McLean)
- Purpose: To support the Municipality’s succession plan and ensure exceptional customer service.
- Council directed staff to investigate the development of a framework for a registry of vacant residential buildings within the Municipality of Sioux Lookout and to consider the feasibility of implementing a Vacant Residential Building Tax and Vacant Home Registry.
- Purpose: To investigate the feasibility of a Vacant Residential Tax as a strategy to encourage housing availability within the Municipality.
- Council approved amending Schedule “A” to By-law No. 68-22 (Being a By-law to Make Appointments to Various Boards, Commissions and Committees) by removing Jonathan Baum from the Sioux Lookout Library Board in recognition of his resignation.
