The following is a summary of the proceedings of the Regular Council Meeting held April 16, 2025:
- The Mayor opened with remarks on the Provincial announcement that Strong Mayor Powers will be extended to an additional 169 municipalities across the province, including Sioux Lookout. A report will be presented at the May Council meeting with further details and Councillors will discuss its implications and how it may impact our community.
- Council passed By-law No. 24-25, Being a By-law to Authorize and Direct the Mayor and the Clerk to Execute a Contribution Agreement under the Northern Ontario Development Program Community Investment Initiative for Northern Ontario Between The Corporation of the Municipality of Sioux Lookout and the Minister of Industry who presides over the Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario (Agreement for Project No. 900084)
- Purpose: To secure three-years of funding to hire an Economic Development Officer, who will support investment attraction, economic growth, sector development, innovation and job creation.
- Council passed By-law No. 25-25, Being a By-law Relating to 2026 Municipal Election Matters (language(s) to be used for election forms/notices/information; use of alternative voting method; use of vote-counting equipment).
- Purpose: To approve the use of internet and telephone voting methods for the 2026 Municipal Election.
- Council authorized the Mayor and the Clerk to negotiate an agreement regarding the sale of Block A Lot 1, Hillcrest development to Opus 69 Ltd DBA Woodmere Developments.
- Purpose: To advance the Hillcrest project by selling lots to interested developers.
- Council passed By-law No. 27-25, Being a By-law to Rescind By-law No. 10-25, Being a By-law to Create and Establish Terms of Reference for the Strategic Plan Development Ad Hoc Advisory Committee.
- Purpose: Not to proceed with establishing the Strategic Plan Development Ad Hoc Advisory Committee due to the small number of applications received. Instead, Council directed staff to engage the public through alternative methods.
