The Municipality of Sioux Lookout is completing a Schedule C Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) study for the proposed expansion of the existing Sioux Lookout Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). This Class EA study identifies the extent of expansion required at the Sioux Lookout WWTP to accommodate projected growth in the area and to address current capacity limitations, including hydraulic limitations of the plant’s outfall into Pelican Lake.
Public Information Centre (PIC) 2 is being held to present the process for identification and evaluation of alternative design concepts, as well as the selection of the preliminary preferred alternative for the expansion of the Sioux Lookout WWTP and replacement of the existing outfall. The PIC will follow a drop-in format. Project team representatives will be available to answer questions and to solicit public and indigenous communities’ feedback on the information presented.
The Process
The Class EA study is being carried out in accordance with the requirements of a Schedule ‘C’ project of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment document (October 2000, last amended in 2024). The Class EA process includes public, indigenous and external agency consultation, an evaluation of alternative solutions, an assessment of potential impacts associated with the proposed improvements, and development of measures to mitigate identified impacts.
Public Consultation
Public consultation is an integral component of the Class EA process, and your input is valued during the planning process. This is the second PIC held in association with the Class EA study. Notices are published in local newspapers, on the Municipality’s website (www.siouxlookout.ca) and distributed to all individuals, communities, and agencies who express an interest in this project. If you wish to be placed on the Project Contact List to receive notices and information, or, to provide comments at any time during the process you can do so by contacting:
