Sioux Lookout, ON – The Province of Ontario is moving to Step 2 of the Roadmap to Reopening at 12:01am on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 and the Municipality of Sioux Lookout is prepared for it.

Under Step 2, there are several key changes to public health measures and restrictions taking effect that residents should be aware of, including:

  • Indoor gatherings for up to 5 people
  • Outdoor gatherings for up to 25 people
  • Public libraries allowed to open at 25% capacity and other restrictions
  • Religious services, wedding and funeral services allowed indoors at 25% capacity or outdoors with capacity limited to permit physical distancing of 2 metres
  • Essential retail can open to 50% capacity
  • Non-essential retail can open to 25% capacity
  • Restaurants and bars can allow outdoor dining with up to 6 people per table
  • Personal care services can open at 25% capacity or up to 5 people, by appointment only
  • Outdoor sports leagues can open
  • Outdoor performing arts is allowed with spectator capacity and other restrictions
  • Outdoor fairs and rural exhibitions are allowed, at reduced capacity
  • Driving instruction permitted once again, with restrictions

These Municipal facilities will remain CLOSED to the public until we enter Step 3:

  • The Municipal Office
  • The Public Works Garage
  • The Fire Hall
  • The Airport Administration Building

All other Municipal facilities are open, following the rules put in place by the Province of Ontario regarding physical distancing, sanitization, and the wearing of face masks. This includes the Hidden Lake Landfill, Airport Terminal Building, Biidaaban and Sioux Mountain Children’s Centres, bike and skate parks, as well as the ball diamonds, soccer fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, and bocce courts.

The move to Step 2 means some busy days ahead for the Recreation Centre! Upcoming events include:

  • Minor sports registration will be available starting Monday, June 28th
    • Monday, June 28th and Tuesday, June 29th registration will be in the Rec Centre parking lot (weather permitting)
    • Wednesday, June 30th and Friday, July 2nd registration will be in the penalty box of the Arena. Enter in the back lane.
    • Minor league sports will start the week of July 5th.
      • Minor soccer and baseball start Monday, July 5th.
      • Minor volleyball starts Tuesday, July 6th.
      • All participants who have pre-registered for minor sports must attend the Recreation Centre for full registration

Fire permits will also be available for sale at the Recreation Centre starting Monday, June 28th. Please note that fire permit and registration payments may be paid by cash or cheque at this time. Cheques should be made payable to the Municipality of Sioux Lookout.

The Municipality of Sioux Lookout thanks you for your continued patience as we work towards reopening all facilities once the Province enters Step 3. We encourage you to get vaccinated for everyone’s protection – and thank everyone who has already been vaccinated for doing their part. The vaccination rates in the Sioux Lookout Health Hub have been fantastic!
