May Council Brief

The following is a summary of the proceedings of the Statutory Public Meeting and Regular Council Meeting held on Wednesday, May 18, 2022:
Statutory Public Meeting:

  • Council received the Planning Report respecting Zoning By-law Amendment No. Z03-2022 and authorized the passing of By-law No. 28-22, Being a By-law to Amend By-law No. 85-18, Being a Comprehensive Zoning By-law for The Corporation of the Municipality of Sioux Lookout, as amended (IFNA – 49 York Street). Council passed this By-law at the Regular Council Meeting.
  • Council received the Planning Report respecting Zoning By-law Amendment No. Z04-2022 and authorized the passing of By-law No. 28-22, Being a By-law to Amend By-law No. 85-18, Being a Comprehensive Zoning By-law for The Corporation of the Municipality of Sioux Lookout, as amended (ISC – 69 Seventh Avenue). Council passed this By-law at the Regular Council Meeting. ISC will be making a presentation to Council in eight months to outline its plans to relocate the temporary warehouse currently located at 69 Seventh Avenue

Regular Council Meeting:

  • Council passed By-law No. 27-22, Being a By-law to Amend By-law No. 50-05, Being a By-law to Adopt the Municipality Personnel Policies, to add Policy No. 3-57, Disconnecting from Work, as a requirement of recent Provincial legislation.
  • Council approved the Municipal Accommodation Tax Application Funding Criteria as stipulated in Section 2.9.3 of Schedule A to By-law No. 62-21.
  • Council accepted the informational report on the Municipal Levies of Sioux Lookout residents in Long Term Care.
  • Council directed staff to invite the Kenora District Home for the Aged and Sioux Lookout Meno-ya-win Health Centre to speak to Council regarding Long Term Care accessibility for Sioux Lookout Residents.
  • Council awarded the Centennial Center 2nd & 3rd Floor Heating and Air Conditioning System Replacement Contract to LBE Group Inc. for $268,125 plus HST and passed By-law No. 33-22 to execute the Contract.
  • Council directed staff to submit an application for funding for the installation of cameras in the downtown core under the Ontario Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Grant Program.
  • Council directed staff to initiate a Sister City Agreement between the Municipality of Sioux Lookout and a town in Ukraine.
  • Council approved amending Schedule “A” to By-law No. 92-18, Being a By-law to Make Appointments to Various Boards, Commissions and Committees), by deleting Darby Starratt from the Sioux Lookout Public Library Board.
