Council Brief

The following is a summary of the proceedings of the Statutory Public Meeting and the Regular Council Meeting held August 24, 2022:

  • Council received the Planning Report dated August 24, 2022, respecting Zoning By-law Amendment No. Z05.
  • Council passes By-law 54-22 to amend By-law 85-15, Being a Comprehensive Zoning By-law, as amended (Housekeeping Amendments).
  • Council received the Planning Report respecting recent changes to the Planning Act dated August 24, 2022.
  • Council passed By-law No. 57-22, to Provide for the participation of the Sioux Lookout Fire Service in the Kenora District Mutual Aid Plan.
  • Council directed staff to initiate a Sister City Agreement with a town in Ukraine.
  • Council received the Bigwood Service Extension Project update regarding cost changes, as outlined in the Treasure’s Report No. 2022-77.
  • Council awarded the Curtis Street Water Booster Pumping Station Upgrades Project to LH North Ltd. for $1,754,250.00 plus HST, and passed By-law No. 58-22, to execute the Contract.
  • Council received the Treasurer’s Loan Updates Report (No. 2022-80) dated August 24, 2022, as information.
  • Council passed By-law No. 56-22 to Write-off of Municipal taxes and provide for the vesting of properties in the Municipality of Sioux Lookout. Further, Council declared the properties set-out in Schedule “A” of By-law No. 56-22 as surplus to Municipal needs, and directed staff to sell the properties.
  • Council authorized the passing of By-law No. 49-22, to Rename a Portion of Front Street to “Valour Way”.
  • Council authorized the discontinuation of “Document Commissioning Services” (Commissioner for Taking Oaths/Affidavits) effective September 1, 2022.
  • Council directed staff to explore the procedural by-law governing the conducting of board, commission, committee, council meetings to consider permitting virtual participation in all meetings.
  • Council adopted the 2022 Asset Management Plan for the Municipality of Sioux Lookout.
