NO

NO

Do you take oil tanks?

Yes- but they have to be cut in half, as the metal hauler will not move if not cut. Any metal drums also fall into this category.

Do you take hazardous waste?

NO.

Do you take soil with fuel oil in it?

YES- if the soil has been tested and passes O.Reg 558- TCLP. Please contact our Public Works Manager at 737-1234 for more information. The amount is subject to tonnage on the scale. Special rate consideration is only granted when approved by Council.

Do you take Recycling at the site?

No- the Municipality encourages residents to take advantage of the curb side recycling pick-up provided to them.

Residential Garbage Collection:

What day is my collection day? It depends where you live:

  • Tuesday: Sioux Lookout urban area - South of Prince Street and West of Fifth Avenue
  • Wednesday: Sturgeon River Road and Drayton Road areas, Sioux Lookout urban area - North of Prince Street and East of Fifth Avenue
  • Thursday: Abram Road areas, Fanning Avenue, Sun & Sand Road, Birch, Pine, Beech, Moosehorn, and Highway 72 to 5-Mile corner, including Highway 664 and Hudson
  • Friday: Alcona

Seasonal Information:

  • Mile 5 to Butterfly Lake: May to October - Wednesday afternoon
  • Mile 5 to Butterfly Lake: November to April - First Wednesday of the month
  • Hudson Beach: May to October - Wednesday afternoon
  • Hudson Beach: November to April - No Pick-up

Because Monday was a holiday does this change my pick-up day?

NO- It will only change if the Statutory Holiday falls on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. The schedule is then moved up by one day. (i.e: Canada Day falls on a Wednesday, no collection- therefore collection will be on Thursday; Thursday collection then moves to Friday-the following week is then back to the regular collection schedule.)

Is the garbage truck on schedule?

The Garbage truck has no set schedule. The By-Law requires that your household garbage must be out by 8:00 am the day of pick-up. Ensure that your garbage is secured from dogs and birds by having it in garbage containers or covered with a tarp or blanket. (Note: If the garbage itself is not a container.)
We do not pick-up from garbage boxes on privately owned property. Garbage boxes are only used for back lane pick-up.

Why did the garbage truck pick up everyone's garbage on my street, except for mine?

Possible reasons:

  • Did you have it out prior to 8:00 am on pick-up day?
  • Did you have all the bags tagged? We will only pick-up tagged bags.
  • Telephone the Public Works Department at 737-1234 and we will call you back once we determine why your garbage was not picked up.
  • Placing your garbage out the night before collection day is also fine.

I missed my pick-up day, will the the truck come back and pick-up my garbage?

NO - It will be picked up the following week or you may haul it to the landfill site.

Because it is storming or bad weather, is there pick-up today?

Yes, we may be behind because of the weather, but we will complete today's pick-up route.

The garbage truck has not been by yet, are they coming today?

Yes. There may be problems with the truck or road conditions could be causing problems.
