THE MUNICIPALITY OF SIOUX LOOKOUT

Invites applications for the position of:

SENIOR PLANT OPERATOR

Position Overview:

Under the direction of the Public Works Plant Supervisor and the Public Works Manager, this position monitors and operates computerized control systems and related equipment in water filtration and treatment plants to regulate the treatment and distribution of water. This position also monitors and operates computerized control systems and related equipment in wastewater, sewage treatment and liquid waste plants to regulate the treatment and disposal of sewage and wastes. As an experienced operator; this position is designated as the "Overall Operator in Charge" when on duty and Overall Responsible Operator in the absence of the Public Works Plant Supervisor, in accordance with related legislation and assists the Public Works Supervisor as required.  The Senior Plant Operator is particularly responsible to assist the Public Works Supervisor in the staff supervision, maintenance, monitoring, and operation of the water pollution control plant and collection system, water treatment plants and water distribution system, and lift stations.  The Senior Plant Operator will oversee daily operations of all systems and report to the Public Works Supervisor of all situations, changes or upsets in process or staff that occur and in conjunction with the Public Works Plant Supervisor will ensure that all systems are being operated in accordance with all regulations, standard operating procedures and policies.  Must adhere to all requirements of the Drinking Water Quality Management System and related Acts and Policies, subject to change from time to time.

 

Skills Required:

  • Ability to understand and interpret Health and Safety policies, written and oral instructions, and machinery operating materials.
  • Ability to give clear directions, orally and in writing, and to record daily circle-checks and vehicle servicing
  • Responsible use of chemicals in the treatment of water and wastewater
  • Ensure safe and effective work in a variety of conditions.
  • Ability to provide advice and direction to employees as required
  • Customer service skills, ability to remain calm and courteous.
  • Accurate record keeping with attention to detail respecting both alpha and numeric digits and calculations.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group settings.
  • Ability to work independently and to undertake a variety of tasks and perform them with a minimum of supervision.
  • Familiarity with computer use, office software, Internet and e-mail.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
  • Certification from the Ministry of Environment in two of the following:
  • o Water Treatment Class III
  • o Wastewater Treatment Class II
  • o Water Distribution Class II
  • o Wastewater Collection Class II
  • Lower certification may be considered, however must be willing and able to upgrade to higher classification in accordance with Ministry of the Environment regulations.
  • Minimum three (3) years related Municipal Public Works plant operation experience

Compensation:

The Municipality offers an hourly wage of $27.08 along with an excellent benefits package and a progressive professional development policy.
