Official Plan and Zoning By-Law Review and Update 2009/10

PURPOSE	To review and update the Municipality of Sioux Lookout Official Plan and Zoning By-Law.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION	A Review and Update of The Municipality of Sioux Lookout's Official Plan and Comprehensive Zoning By-Law No. 29-01. The project generally includes: Review of existing conditions and documents Co-ordination of the Airport Aeronautical Zoning/Regulations Preparation of Draft and Final Background Reports Preparation of Draft and Final Official Plan and Zoning By-law documents The Official Plan for the Municipality of Sioux Lookout was approved by the Council of the Municipality in November 2000 and subsequently approved by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs on January 22, 2004. This was the first Official Plan for the Municipality and followed the restructuring of the Municipality which formerly consisted of the Town of Sioux Lookout, unorganized townships including the Drayton Settlement Area, Alcona Settlement Area and the community of Hudson. The Comprehensive Zoning By-Law No. 29-01 was prepared at the same time as the Official Plan and approved by Municipal Council on September 19, 2001. By-Law No. 29-01 replaced all previous By-Laws and the Minister's Zoning Order which covered the unorganized townships (administered by a joint Planning Board). There have been sixty five (65) amendments to the Zoning By-Law since its adoption. Planning Staff have assessed and determined that there is a need to review both the Official Plan and Zoning By-Law. There are several reasons for the need for the review and it is particularly timely with respect to the changes to the Planning Act and requirements for the five year review.
