Cedar Bay Summer Day Camp

"Greetings from the staff of Cedar Bay Day Camp! We have exciting news for all the kids coming to join us this summer at Cedar Bay. We have gone back and forth through time to find you some of the coolest crafts and biggest games because this year it's Time Travellers at Cedar Bay Day Camp and Summer Explorers!

Kids will be able to enjoy our weekly themes, educational and recreational programming, crafts with our staff as well as artists from the community and beyond, outdoor activities, games and sports, recreational swimming, professionally supervised low ropes courses, climbing wall, and so much more. This year we will be finishing every week off with a bang as we close off the week in our weekly Theme Afternoons and as we experience our jolt back to our era. Time travel can be some tricky business! Be sure to check out the weekly theme link at the bottom of the page.

Also for those campers that are interested in getting even more out of camp this summer we have electives available such as kayaking instruction, canoeing instruction, karate classes, sailing levels, dance instruction, theatre, and equestrian programming.

This year we welcome Summer Explorers to their new home at Cedar Bay Chalet. This will allow them to enjoy the beautiful outdoor environment as well as be a part of the larger camp community.

We look forward to seeing those from last year and all newcomers to Cedar Bay throughout the summer!"

See attachments below for Registration Forms and Programming Information

Adventure Leadership Program

New Vision Unlimited and the Municipality of Sioux Lookout are partnering to bring this year's action packed summer program. Partnerships with various other community organizations, groups and businesses is sure to result in a summer filled with exciting and enriching opportunities for youth of all ages. New Vision Unlimited's programming is centered around an Adventure Leadership model that uses a combination of exciting, hands on activities and experiences to empower youth of all ages to develop their own leadership potential. Through a grant received from the Ontario Arts Council in partnership with the Sioux Lookout Creative Arts Circle creativity will be woven throughout all aspects of the weekly programs with local artists providing on-site instruction for special projects.

LEADER-IN-TRAINING PROGRAM

After a great introductory season last year we are pleased to offer the Leaders-in-Training Program again for youth ages 12-14 yrs. This will be a great opportunity for youth to gain valuable certifications for future employment and develop their leadership capacity. Applications and more detailed information are at the Recreation Centre and on our website. Call us for more info.

CAMP END CELEBRATION

Be sure to join us Friday August 20th from 6:30-8:00pm (location TBA) for the camp end celebration that will showcase the accomplishments of campers from throughout the summer including art, music, theatre arts performance, thank you's, acknowledgements and refreshments. Last year's celebration was fun, inspirational and moving as the community came together to celebrate the accomplishments of the campers, camp staff and community members who helped make the summer a success. This year's event promises to be a celebration you and your camper will not want to miss!

CAMPER INFORMATION

Each camper should come with the following items each day: Weather appropriate clothing including rain coats and boots, sunscreen, hat, bathing suit, towel, change of clothes, running shoes, lunch (if not participating in the Healthy Lunch Program), healthy snacks, lot of drinks. Please help us in reaching our camp goal of producing as little garbage as possible by sending your child's food in reusable containers whenever possible.

Due to the fact that many children have peanut allergies, it would be much appreciated if you refrain from packing anything containing peanuts in your child's/children's lunch(s).
Rain Days: In cases of heavy rain, campers to meet at Recreation Centre - a sign will be posted at Cedar Bay parking lot to notify of situation. Please send children with rain gear for drizzly days.

Health and Safety: Please inform us of any medical conditions or special needs that your child/children may have upon registration and/or drop off. This is very important for their safety, and will allow us to provide the specific support that your child needs in order for them to have the best camp experience possible. If your child does have a medical condition or special need, please ensure that you provide information on registration form. We have made efforts to train camp staff to better recognize and effectively address the various needs children face. In addition we have associated professionals who have offered their skills and support as needed to help us support campers with special needs.

Healthy Lunch Program: For your convenience and to promote healthy nutrition for campers we are offering an optional Healthy Lunch Program for an affordable rate of $25 per week; subsidized by Johnny's Food Market. Each day campers will have their choice of sandwich, vegetables and fruit, baked goods and beverage (juice or water). All bread will be whole wheat with nitrite free meats, tuna or cheese. To reduce waste we are taking steps to ensure these lunches are package free. If you would like to see a detailed menu, please feel free to ask. If you are signing up for a ‘Healthy Lunch' in the chart below, you MUST hand in the Registration Form no later than the Friday prior to the week start date.

Childcare Service before and after camp: Childcare will be provided from 8:00-8:45am and 4:00 - 5:00pm at the Cedar Bay Parking Lot. Parents must register and pay for their child ahead of time to help us ensure we have adequate supervision. Please note that cash will NOT be accepted on site and parents must register their child for the entire week of childcare. An additional charge of $1 per every 5 minutes will apply after 5pm to compensate the staff for the extra time they spend waiting for parents to arrive.

Payment & Reservations: Carefully add the cost of all required and optional camp fees and provide payment to the recreation centre in the form of cash, cheque, debit or credit card. Please write your child's name on the cheque and the date of the camp(s) they are attending. Your child's space is reserved once payment is received.

Refunds: If you need to cancel your child's reservation in day camp there will be a $25 cancellation fee per child/per week. If you change the dates of enrollment to another week this fee will be waived.

Campers who do NOT choose Electives will also enjoy an enhanced camp program which may include a combination of the following: Mountain Biking, Climbing Wall, Visual and Musical Art, and Archery. Every camper will experience recreational swimming, camp wide games and FUN!
