LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Mayor and Council

The Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of Sioux Lookout is comprised of the Mayor and six Councillors. The Municipal government structure is comprised of various committees and boards that advise Mayor and Council on specific Municipal responsibilities.

Boards, Committees & Commissions

Six Boards, Committees and Commissions form part of the municipal structure that address public matters. An array of elected and appointed members volunteer to represent the citizens of Sioux Lookout.

Municipal Services

The Municipal Council is responsive to the social, economic, recreational, cultural and health needs of the community.

The Municipal Corporation is comprised of the following Departments:

• Clerk's department including Licensing and Cemetery
• Development Services including Building and Zoning By-Law and Planning
• Economic Development which is governed by a Commission
• Community Services Department includes Parks and Recreation and Facilities
• Day Care
• Emergency Services which includes Fire Service and By-Law Enforcement
• Library
• Non-Profit Housing
• Ontario Works
• Public Works includes the Roads Department, the Utilities Department which includes water treatment and sewer and garbage collection
• Municipal Airport which is governed by a Commission.

Federal Government Services

Federal government services in the community include two Canada Post Offices (Hudson and Sioux Lookout), a Health Canada Occupation and Environmental office, a National Health and Welfare office, and Indian and Northern Affairs Canada.

Provincial Government Services

Provincial government services in the Municipality include the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration, Ministry of Culture; Ministry of Tourism and the Health Promotion Branch; Ministry of Community and Social Services; Ministry of Natural Resources; Ministry of Northern Development and Mines (including Driver and Vehicle Licensing and Health Card Services); and the Ministry of Correctional and Services.
