Labour Force
A diverse economic base has given Sioux Lookout stability over the years, and the Municipality is generally not susceptible to "booms or busts." The closing of the Canadian Forces Base and layoffs by CN Rail reflected a slight downturn in the local economy for a short period. This has been offset over the years by the further development of Sioux Lookout as a regional service centre for the Far North.
Sioux Lookout is experiencing growth in terms of the number of opportunities available to professional firms, for example: engineering, legal, etc., to provide services to the northern First Nations communities.
