Development Services
The Municipality of Sioux Lookout department of Development Services includes Planning and Building. The overall responsibility of Development Services is to assist with development within the community.
The main objectives of the Department include providing excellent customer service and promoting the community as an attractive location to all residents, visitors and investors.
The Development Services Department delivers quality service as a one-stop-shopping resource for citizens, visitors, investors and developers in Sioux Lookout.
Land-use planning helps the Municipality to manage land and resources within the community and the goal is to promote a pattern of land use that will provide a healthy local economy and offer a wide range of opportunities for the citizens.
The Planning Department assists individuals and developers with their development initiatives, provides direction for future land use and ensures compatibility between land uses. The Official Plan and Zoning By-Law establish policies and regulation to provide direction for the community's planning decisions. Regulatory functions include the issuing of various licenses and permits related to property development and business, as well as lotteries.
The review of construction plans prior to the issuance of a building permit and the ongoing inspection of construction activities contribute to the health and safety of the community. The Department manages the Municipality’s property-related transactions and provides services such as property acquisition and development, sales and road allowance sales.
Lakefront Development
Within the municipal boundaries, Sioux Lookout’s urban waterfront includes an eclectic mix of homes and other commercial operations, beaches, and parks. The rural and natural areas contain thousands of kilometres of almost totally undeveloped shoreline, providing endless opportunities for outdoor activities.
