The Northern Experience

Reprinted from the Northern Experience Magazine - Sioux Lookout Chamber of Commerce

There is nothing quite like the Northern Experience. Just imagine the aroma of fresh coffee in the cabin, maybe a fire crackling to take the edge off the cool spring morning.  Mist dancing lazily over the lake as you check and adjust your fishing tackle.  Then off you go with the expectation of great action that renews itself every morning.  Trolling into quite bays, still fishing off of granite shores and the unmatched taste of a fresh shore lunch. Then off again for another chance at a trophy-sized fish.

Although we are proud of our fishing quality it is the unique wilderness experience that visitors remember.  Hiking on an old logging trail, sitting beside refreshing rapids, or swimming at one of the spectacular beaches, this is an experience unrivalled for privacy and enjoyment.  While we offer great fishing, we guarantee great memories.  Whether you choose campgrounds or simple cabins or full service lodges with all the amenities, there is truly something for everyone in Sioux Lookout.

Throughout the year we proudly host numerous events for visitors and residents to enjoy. Join us for July 1st celebrations and ourfamous Blueberry Festival in August. Withover 100 events, this 10 day festival is filled with sporting activities, a music festival, and street dance, childrens' events and a trade show; just to name a few. Also in August, the nearby First Nations community of Lac Seul also hosts a traditional Powwow.

In the winter, events include skiing, skating, curling, and of course ice hockey.  In February you can enjoy our annual Sioux Mountain Winter Festival and Pond Hockey Tournament. In March you can take in ten days of hockey action during the Northern First Nations Hockey Tournament.

Sioux Lookout is also a snowmobiler's haven.  As part of the Trans Ontario Provincial Trail Network Sioux Lookout is accessible by groomed trails from anywhere in Northwestern Ontario.

Whether you're skiing, skating indoors or out, or taking in a brisk sunny day of ice fishing,  we invite you to enjoy Sioux Lookout year round.
